🪶 About Hello Nihon
Hello! I’m the person behind Hello Nihon.
Hello Nihon is a small blog about Japan’s culture, travel, and everyday life. From a local perspective (and with help from my Shiba Inu mascot!), I share gentle, easy-to-understand guides so visitors can feel comfortable in Japan—covering onsen etiquette, regional traditions, and those unspoken rules that aren’t obvious at first.
This blog is for people who are planning a trip to Japan, as well as those already here who want to learn a little more. I simply want you to like Japan even more, so I try to highlight the good, everyday aspects of this country.
🐕 Meet the Shiba Guide
When you think of a “Japanese dog,” what comes to mind?
I chose the Shiba Inu—popular in Japan and increasingly loved abroad—as my mascot. The Shiba who appears on Hello Nihon is your friendly guide: polite, a little playful, and always here to make learning about Japan fun and stress-free.

The Shiba Inu is a small dog breed native to Japan, so popular around the world that it’s often nicknamed “Japan’s little fox” for its fox-like face and smile. Its curled tail, slightly tsundere personality, and the way it goes all in when it wants affection are all part of its charm. Once brave enough to help with hunting in the mountains, it has now become one of Japan’s most beloved and iconic dog breeds worldwide.
🗾 Why I Started This Blog
I’m not fluent in English—speaking and writing are both difficult for me—but I truly love people and cultures from around the world. Since childhood I’ve watched foreign movies and dramas and felt a strong admiration. I wanted to connect with people overseas through something I could make, and that “something” became this blog.
I chose the themes of Japanese culture, travel, and daily life because I felt I could use my advantage as someone who lives here. Many cultural habits and manners are hard to grasp until you actually live in Japan—for example, even speaking a little too loudly can draw awkward looks. I don’t want you to have unpleasant experiences. I want you to enjoy Japan more. That’s why I focus on culture, travel, and everyday life.
As I mentioned, my English isn’t strong, so I use ChatGPT to help with translation and phrasing. If you notice any unnatural expressions, I’d be grateful if you let me know. I’ll keep improving the wording so I can deliver better articles.
